The pros and cons of ellipticals

Ellipticals can be a great addition to your home gym and have definitely become more popular in recent years. Here are some things you may want to consider before shopping for ellipticals.

Let's start with the ellipticals negative points to get them out of the way:

  • Can be awkward for those not used to the motion
  • Can irritate those with knee problems
  • Cost - can be expensive if you go with a good quality machine
  • Elliptical motion can cause quadriceps to tire quickly, making it hard to get a full workout

Now here are the more positive benefits of ellipticals:

  • Low to no-impact
  • Weight bearing exercise - excellent for building strong bones
  • Can be adjusted to work different muscle groups
  • Provides full body workout with the use of the upper body levers
  • Provides cross-training - simulates a cross between running, skiing and cycling

All in all, the ellipticals pros seem to outweigh any of the cons and if used in combination with other cardio machines, they can provide an excellent return on investment - better health!
